Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

WHAT'S UP GUYS

Well, well, well. I'm in my second year of art school now, and I'm going to be uploading a lot more of my stuff on here.

I know a lot of my old fans were really fond of my fanart (and also they're probably long gone), but I'm evolving and changing! I'm 20 now, whaaaaaaat! I'm not that awkward 12 year old I was when I started posting on here. I know I should maybe get a new account, but I love how this page kind of chronicles my past. I'm kind of over the "dannyphantomfreek" screenname though, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a premium account just so I can change it.

I'm learning a lot about perspective, painting, composition, illustration, animation... pretty much everything. I go to SJSU and this school is absolutely perfect for me. For anyone considering the A/I program here, DO IT. I've never been around people this passionate and friendly in my life. I'm getting so much better, too, and it definitely shows!

As far as personal life, I've got a nice job, a great apartment, fantastic friends, a wonderful boyfriend and... well, I've got a lot of things figured out. :') That's not to say I don't engage in the occasional water gun fight, game of tag, gigglefit or cartoon marathon in my underwear. I'm just a little bit more responsible now.

Here's to a new chapter of my DeviantArt life!
